Leave Puno early in the morning, drive for 2 hours along the shores of Lake Titikaka to Desaguadero on the Peru-Bolivia border and carry on to the pre-Inca ruins of Tiwanaku which date from around 1500 BC. Some of the well-preserved examples of the Tiwanaku culture that you see and learn about on the site are the Gateway of the Sun, the Pyramid of Akapana, the Temple of Kalasasaya and the Semi-subterranean Temple, visit the archaeological site’s museum.
